Not everybody can experience the thrilling horsepower and speed of a Bugatti Veyron. But the Traxxas XO-1 Remote Control Supercar offers fans a small taste of what it would be like with its high-speed insanity. The XO-1 Remote Control Supercar is the world’s fastest production ready-to-run, electric RC supercar, with Traxxas saying that it can go from 0-100 Kilometres per hour in just 2.3 seconds and tops out at speeds over 160 kmph.
For only R15000, the Car is complete out of the box, including a Traxxas/Castle brushless-electric motor called the Big Block. It generates 3.5 horsepower and can spin to 40,000 rpm. It only weights 3 kg and can be upgraded with a pair of 0.09-kWh lithium-polymer batteries in place of standard 0.06-kWh packs for more range.
Sure most supercars are single colour paint jobs, but i would of liked to see at least one ‘different’ paint job, not just red, blue, black but something with a little more colour. A two tone Bugatti look would be been great. The chassis is impressive. You can tell a lot of thought and design went into it as well as probably a lot of testing and tweaking. Anywhere we brought it it turned heads and gathered crowds. The size is impressive and seems about right. The app provides control over the operation and tuning of XO-1 with an intuitive, high definition graphical user interface. Once you have created the perfect control settings for your model, you can save them as a profile that you can restore later, use on another model, or share with friends. It also transmits real-time data including speed, RPM, temperature, and battery voltage with stunning visuals. The real-time telemetry of rpm, battery and speed are nice features. The iPhone is a bit tough to see out in the sun, and when you are doing 80+kmph you don’t have a whole lot of time to take your eyes off your car anyway.
The XO-1 is an amazingly durable vehicle. None of us expected it to take the abuse we have put it through and have it still rolling. We have only broken the high-speed front splitter and a small part off the front of the chassis. We have crashed this vehicle multiple times at speeds over 100 kmph where it’s not only flipped and slid, but went flying off road and tumbling through the air. And in cold/winter conditions, we honestly can’t believe more parts are not broken. This thing is truly Traxxas tough!
The slick belted tires were very hard actually. There was no chance of these ballooning or getting out of shape during the high speed passes. Warming the tires is essential when you plan on take this beast to the maxx!
But there were some issues. We tried multiple times at multiple locations on multiple days. Our top recorded radar speed was just over 130 kmph. However i think the fear factor was pretty much in effect, because at that speed everything happens so much faster and temperature and wind played a huge factor.
We have noticed that on occasion we experienced a heating issue with the motor. But this only existed in the high performance setup. I think the air scoop is designed for high speed air intake so if you are not gunning it down the straight you may not be adequately be cooling the motor.
The amount of time it takes to get up to the high speeds is quick. The XO-1 has a throttle curve you can feel and it takes some time (over 5 seconds) to get up to top speed, and a LOT more distance. (Traxxas recommends 1000 feet) We would start pretty far down the straight. Drive towards ourselves and probably pass the person driving at about 80 kmph so you could still see the car when you were reaching the top speed, and have room to slow down and attempt to stop.
The Traxxas/Castle Big Block brushless motor is basically ridiculous. The amount of power this thing can throw out is incredible. It’s huge, it’s heavy, and it’s a beast. The ESC is basically a Mamba Monster Speed Controller with some extra caps on it, and we all know that thing can dish out the power as well. To get the 160+ kmph high speeds Traxxas includes a huge 32 tooth pinion gear. The combination of all this power and the huge gear did result in some cogging (stuttering) issues at low speeds
Is it the fastest rc production car made and you are you going to leave every other RC car eating your dust. If you are looking to stand out at your local spot or block, this is the car you need. In ideal conditions you should be able to get really close to that 160 kmph , we just never had the perfect conditions we needed.
This is a great and unique product and one that will establish Traxxes as the unmistakable leader in their field.
